The Process: Promo
It’s very exciting to announce this new project we’re working on at the A-J. Throughout this season, I’m following the Estacado High School football team as they compete on the field. In the series known as The Process, I’ll tell stories of the players, coaches, and school along the way.
I’ll make updates down below once each new episode is released.
Episode 1
In this first episode, you’re introduced to the team at Estacado as they being fall camp and set their eyes to the ultimate goal of winning the state championship.
Episode 2
After reinjuring his knee in his first play of the season opener, Seth Porter begins rehabbing for next season and helps guide the new running backs.
Episode 3
In order to assist his players on and off the field, coach Shavers and his assistants find ways to help where they’re needed. This includes driving athletes to and from school as well as picking up food from the South Plains Food Bank.
Episode 4
Homecoming week at any high school involves numerous activities, especially at Estacado. Each sport at the school was displayed during a community pep rally. Students walked in a parade along the road leading up to the school. The new queen was crowned during the game against in-town rival Lubbock High.
Episode 5
Part of the life as a team in West Texas is traveling long distances for road games. The Estacado coaches and players hop on the bus for a three-hour trip to San Angelo.
Episode 6
As the first set of report cards come out at the end of the six weeks period, any athletes not passing their classes can’t compete for the next six weeks. Here you learn how the coaches at the school help their student-athletes pass all of their classes.
Episode 7
The athletes and other students find many ways to give back to their community. Reading books to elementary students is one such way they help out.
Episode 8
Two years ago, Dre McBrewer was significantly injured in a car crash with Rodrick Bibbs. After going through the rehab process, both players returned to the team as leaders on the defense.
Episode 9
Two prime recruits for the Matadors are Royce Wellington and Devin White. Here you learn about how the two players are trying to improve their futures on and off the field.
Episode 10
For the final home game of the season, The Estacado players meet up against Borger to win the District 1-4A title outright.
Episode 11
As a Freshman at Allen High School, Marcus Shavers moved in with the Francisco’s to stay in the district. Learn more about how Coach took that opportunity to succeed at Arkansas and now Estacado.
Episode 12
During its first year of varsity eligibility, the Estacado football team won the UIL Class 3A state football championship in 1968. Now the campus is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the school and the state title.
Episode 13
The Estacado football team may have ended its season earlier than it planned, but the journey and relationships have just begun for a Matadors senior class which turned in a 10-win campaign and earned the District 1-4A Division title outright.

I’ll periodically update this section as new contests are announced. But I’m excited to announce The Process won the Long Video category and finished in Top 10 in the Projects Category for subscriptions under 30K in the 2017 Associated Press Sports Editors Awards.
